Everything and Emptiness

'Everything and Emptiness' explores a contemporary journey into spiritual awakening within our modern day world, influenced by the profound teachings of Buddhist Tulku Thondup's concept of “Emptiness is Form and Form is Emptiness."

The live sound accompaniment, orchestrated by carillonneur Carol Anne Taylor, resonated from the bell tower of the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe. The collaborative music composition by Pennington and Carol Anne Taylor expanded the boundaries of traditional carillon sounds, experimenting with note duration and rapid striking tones. Amidst the 5:00pm rush hour, rehearsals within the bell tower unexpectedly reached the public on the streets of downtown Dallas, creating moments of surprise and delight.

'Everything and Emptiness,' conceived, directed, and filmed by Shane Pennington, made its debut as a public art installation. The immersive experience combined live sound from the Cathedral Shrine's bell tower with video projections onto the exterior of the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center during Aurora 2011.

Featuring model Savannah Burton, the project enlisted the expertise of Circ De Solie for rigging, Mari King for costume design, Joshua King as Key Grip, and Scogin for photography.
