"The American Dream" is a satire on today's culture in America. Using real Campbell's soup cans, that were the subject matter of perhaps the most iconic image of pop-art, inside a vacuum sealed “Space Saver” bag, Pennington is poking fun of contemporary American ideals. Most noted is the use of a LARGE bag, that in turn has its air removed, therefore “preserving” the can and limiting the space surrounding it…. a space we all yearn for.
